Welcome to today’s Polyurea Magazine Daily Briefing — your quick-scan summary of what’s happening in the polyurea and protective coatings industry. Published every weekday morning.
🏗️ Projects & Awards
Kansas DOT Awards $4.2M Polyurea Bridge Deck Waterproofing Contract — The Kansas Department of Transportation has awarded a $4.2 million contract for spray-applied polyurea waterproofing on 18 bridges along I-70. The project, expected to begin in late June, will use a 60-mil aromatic polyurea system with aliphatic topcoat on approximately 215,000 square feet of bridge deck surface. The award continues a trend we’ve documented extensively in our bridge project roundup.
Gulf Petrochemical Terminal Secondary Containment Expansion — A major Gulf Coast petroleum terminal is moving forward with a $1.8 million secondary containment lining upgrade, with bids due June 28. The project requires NSF-compliant polyurea liners and AMPP CIP-certified inspection. See our secondary containment guide for specification details.
💲 Market & Pricing Update
MDI spot prices in North America have stabilized this week after a 6-week run of increases. Spot quotes for polymeric MDI (pMDI) are ranging $1.42–$1.58/lb FOB Gulf Coast, down approximately 4 cents from last week’s peak. Industry observers attribute the stabilization to new production capacity coming online at a major Gulf Coast manufacturer. For context on the broader pricing environment, see our March 2026 MDI analysis.
Aliphatic isocyanates (HDI and IPDI) remain tight, with lead times extending to 8–10 weeks for some grades. UV-stable topcoat contractors are advised to plan material purchases well in advance of summer project starts.

🔬 Technical Note of the Day
Summer application season reminder: As temperatures rise, dew point management becomes the single most common application challenge. With warm daytime temperatures and high humidity in most of the US, the window between dew point and substrate temperature can close rapidly after sunset. Always take dew point readings every 30 minutes during evening and early morning application windows. Our surface preparation guide covers dew point calculation in detail.
👥 Community Highlight
In our Community Forum, there’s an active discussion thread on MDI sourcing alternatives with 27 replies as of this morning — worth reading if you’re evaluating your supply chain options. Also active: a thread on roof pitch transition detailing techniques that has generated some excellent practical solutions from our members.
